How effective are ballistic helmets in stopping bullets

Ballistic helmets moved in stages in terms of military tools they provided protection for. Generally, they are made to protect the heads of soldiers from any form of harmful impact. They have protected soldiers from arrows, swords, shrapnel, bullets, fragmentation shells, and blasts. In the 21st century, they still provide protection against bullets.

Providing an answer to how effective ballistic helmets are in stopping bullets won’t be complete without discussing the current helmet used by the army. The army currently uses the Integrated Head Protection System (IHPS).

The IHPS served as a replacement for the Enhanced Combat Helmet (ECH) which equally provided ballistic protection. The difference between both helmets is the level of protection they provide. The IHPS shares the same feature of providing ballistic protection against bullets with the ECH. However, the IHPS provides double the blunt impact the ECH provided.

The IHPS, even though it has proven to be a great tool of protection, cannot stop bullets. The helmet or all ballistic helmets only protect your head from being hit by bullets. These helmets ensure that the tension or impact of the bullet is greatly reduced when the bullet comes in contact with them. Notably, they are very effective in protecting soldiers and they don’t fail in providing the protection they were built for.

The fact that these helmets don’t stop bullets doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be worn. Attention should never be shifted from the fact that they have remained one of the best forms of protection for soldiers. Soldiers should always equip themselves with tools of protection to avoid getting harmed. The injury a soldier suffers spells doom for the health of the soldier as well as the mission such soldier was assigned to.

In conclusion, the effectiveness of ballistic helmets isn’t one that should come under doubts because indirectly, they do stop bullets from hitting you.
