Tactical Helmets can be a lifesaver; here’s why
Tactical helmets did not use to be this popular. I’d explain.
When helmets started becoming a common feature in police gears, most police units made use of mere bump helmets. These kinds of helmets are simply for impact protection. At that time, cops were using tactical bump helmets primarily to prevent their heads from falling objects. Hardly would you see a patrol officer wearing a tactical or ballistic helmet. However, tactical ballistic helmets have become a major feature in everyday police life.
For several reasons, lots of police departments have stopped issuing tactical helmets to police officers. Sadly, the rate of cops being killed and suffering from severe head injuries has continued to rise. This has led several agencies to rethink the exclusion of tactical helmets from the essential police gears. It is important that the increased protection of cops and law enforcement agents is considered.
Today, more police and law enforcement agencies are now purchasing hard armor and tactical ballistic helmets for their patrol officers. For instance, the NYPD, the Fort Worth Police Department, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have recently announced that they would be issuing ballistic helmets to their officers. These police gears would offer better protection to officers during high-intensity incidents. Apart from the protection it offers, it also helps in boosting survival rate and confidence rate of the cops as they carry out their daily tasks.
More agencies are now making purchase for ballistic tactical helmets for their officers. Maybe, after all, the cops do need tactical helmets. Also, the demand for ballistic helmets from public safety agencies is restricted to law enforcement agencies alone. Even fire departments, first responders, and emergency medical units are also acquiring head protection for their personnel to increase their safety during their operations.
